MIA MACFARLANE

ERIK von PLOENNIES

A collage of 5 to 60 minute improvisational sessions, my work is mixed and layered together over the course of days, weeks, and even months.   The ideas and inspiration come from what I see and experience in everyday life. I am also inspired by the work and ideas of other artists and incorporate whatever I can into my own style.  Basically, my artwork is a melting pot of random thoughts, feelings, inspiration and influences with some of my engineering background mixed in as well.

APRIL DILL

April Dill is a modern mannerist, sacrificing pinpoint accuracy for her own ideal expression. She explains, “I flood the canvas with intricate marks, even if they don’t exist in real life. Fantastical men, women, and beasts engage my scenes in a climatic dialog. Something grand, even apocalyptic seems to be happening in my work. Absurd relationships commonly accepted as the norm in society are the focus of my paintings. Callous hearts toward the victim, giant’s moment of fragility; these are examples of truly strange connections in everyday life that I reveal.  The process of my paintings is never spontaneous. Several thin layers cover the canvas when I near what I consider ideal. I find my technique to be similar to marble sculpture, chiseling away the obscure with the paintbrush. Because of the long process of oil under-painting, my works encompass as wide spectrum of emotions I have towards the subject. Each day affects what my paintings will express.  I accept the change of my being over time.”

ULA EINSTEIN

Ula Einstein is a Swiss born multi-disciplinary artist based in New York City. Her recurring experiences that things are rarely as they seem influences how she uses and materials and tools in ways other than intended. Her organic process-oriented work includes re-employing materials and tools found in her daily surroundings plus scavenged items and discarded objects. " Not locked into any one discipline, I have several projects going on simultaneously. I'm interested in the tension between painting/drawing and sculpture, the formal and the familiar, the connection between destruction and creation."   Jan - March 2008 in Drawing Revealed she is showing her drawings with fire and thread at the Garrison Art Center, Garrison NY and is mentioned in the review by Benjamin Genocchio for The New York Times. In Line, Gesture, Space her paintings and installations, whose pieces are created in the studio and then organically created site specifically in the exhibition space, are showing at Therese A. Maloney Gallery in Morristown, NJ. A short interview/video about her work entitled Artist Fires It Up In Morristown was produced by NJ.com and can still be viewed on line. Einstein's interview for Citywide Radio will air February 19th. Her work is included among collections internationally.
