WAYNE HOEY
"My painting is about the relationship between the natural and artificial world set in obscure locations. Mysterious and symbolic, a narrative emerges in strange places. I paint for the mind’s eye, where logic and common sense only interfere. The figures in my paintings live in a visionary world and where gravitational laws are often abandoned. They drift among fractured thoughts, elements of nature, and architectural motifs in vibrant color. The men and women in the images appear to be entirely encased in their own thoughts… momentarily lost in reasoning. Meditative, the paintings invite reflection on the minutiae of daily living. I seek to capture moments in time when the mind is dislocated, disoriented and unguarded. I work from my imagination, live models, charcoal drawings, and photos. As a painting progresses, a storyline emerges inspired by the various subjects at hand. Images, thoughts and environments accumulate. There is an ongoing transformation of form, subject and color. "
